Hi, I’m the new Monkeybutt in town!

Ship ahoy!
Hi,

My name is Mack the Marauder Monkeybutt Pirate, but you can just call me Mack for short. My big sister, Hope, passed away a little while ago, and I miss her so much that I ate a leg off one of my stuffed dog animals today in honor of her. But I gotta tell you, I don’t think that she is REALLY gone. Last week when he was in the kitchen downstairs, my dad said he felt two paws pressing on his back like one of my siblings was there with him. We were all upstairs with Mom, and the door was closed, so it wasn’t any of us! I think Hope will be reappearing from time to time, so I will need to continue to be the resident Monkeybutt–just in case. Figures that she woud still be hanging around the kitchen–she was always a chowhound and I could tell by sniffing her breath that she always got stuff that the rest of us didn’t!

I’m going boating today with dad on our pirate ship. I love the water and going fast!

My golden, Hope, was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma of the paw three years ago. Early on, she had traditional surgery to remove the mass, but the lump always came back. We found a wonderful holistic vet who was able to use Eastern medicine to keep the tumor in check for most of those 3 years. Recently, holistic care lost out to the cancer and her leg was amputated at the shoulder on Friday. I joined this group to learn how I can assist her through the healing process and help her maintain a good quality of life. —– For the first few days following surgery, Hope was pretty high on tramadol and the patch. She seemed much better after the patch was removed, but refused to try to get up by herself. We had to use two slings to drag her outside to go potty and even then, she didn't go. She had only two bowel movements in the week and urinated only three times. She looked very depressed–like she had lost the will to try. The only thing that perked her up was food–Hope LOVES her food. Had she stopped eating, we would have been very worried. During this time, she continued to drink water. On June 25, we took her to the surgeon and she manually expressed her bladder. It took three big, thick towels to hold it all! Immediately, Hope got up and starting walking around and had a bowel movement right in the doctor's office and then started exploring down the hall. If I had not been there, I wouldn't have believed it! It's only been one day since she started walking without any assistance, but she looks happy and she is no longer in pain from her cancer. Another thing–her surgeon took her bandage off early. She said that some dogs really hate the bandage and to be carried around in a sling. Apparently, Hope was one of those dogs. Maybe having the bandage removed gave her some of her dignity back–you just never know how change affects our dogs. Hope might not be running a marathon anytime soon, but we are so glad to see the progress she's made in such a short time.

While you are very cute, and we want to snuggle your little puppy face, you are still a Monkeybutt and therefore we will be on guard at all times.

  4. Very nice to meet you Monkeybutt Mack! You look a little like me, cept you have 4 legs. My big sis gets all the special treats too — guess now that you are the Big Brother in the house, you will get special treats!I like your tribute to your big sis — I think a Tripawd “baby” is a fine item to have with you.

Wow, boating? You must read Angel Maximutt’s Dad’s posts, they have 2 4-legged kids now. He is a Sheriff on the water (so you and your Dad better watch out today), and he writes great stories about boating and takes awesome pix.

Ok, have fun today and tell your parents that Angel Hope can run so fast now, she can be with you and them AND run, jump and play with her Tripawd Angel friends 🙂 Shelby the Petite Princess

  5. Ahoy There Mack! Sorry about your sister, I’m sure she is watching over you and your family from over the rainbow bridge and being a sneaky angel roaming around the kitchen. Your dad has to post more pictures of you…we are always looking for a handsome mug for our next Monkeybutt Production.
PS- Watch out for those sneaky pink caped Tripawd Princesses….they are not to be trusted! Bahahahaha! Have fun on the open seas there Matey! Arrgh!

  6. charon and gayle,

Dopey Hopey warned you tripawd people about her fears that I would become a Monkeybutt. She said that she was very disappointed in me. Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, wahhhhhhhhhh! I wear a life jacket when I’m boating, so even if she pushes me in the water, I will be OK. I’m a good swimmer too–I am part lab and part golden retriever. When no one was around the other day, dad let me jump in the people pool where he keeps his boat. It was a lot of fun until the owner caught us. 🙁 Dad’s going to take me to a special park that has a dock so I can dock dive! I have to have an aaaaaaaptootood test first, but I can act good for that. I really hope there are a bunch of tripawds at the park! I will have sooooooooooooo much fun knocking them down and annoying them when they try to poop!

  8. Petite Princess Shelby,

You sure are a looker–that’s because you look a lot like me! 🙂

I have two golden sisters, a golden/lab mix brother and a black lab mix brother. I am still the baby brother around this place and get NO RESPECT! No special treats or ANYTHING! Maybe I shouldn’t back talk when my mom tells me to do something.

Thanks for the heads-up on the water polllllllllez. I’ll keep on the lookout for them. I don’t want to go to the slammer at such a young age.

I’m glad that Hope is no longer in pain. She was a good sister and put up with me chewing on her ears and tail when I was a tiny little puppy. Don’t tell anybody because pirates are supposed to be tough, but I really loved her a lot. It was OK that she got special stuff because me and my pack knew she was really sick.

    Your blonde buddy,

    Mack

  9. Hi Samson, my Monkeybutt hero!

I am sooooo glad to hear from you. Those messages from all the tripawd gals skeeeeeeeered me! They want to cuddle and kiss me! Pleeeeeeze protect me, Samson! Hope warned me about the tripawds, but I’m just a wittle guy and didn’t believe her. Do they skeeeeeeeer you too? Can you call me or somethin’ if you hear they are comin’ for me? Help me, brave Pirate Samson!

P.S. I haven’t figgered out how to post with a picher of me yet, but I’m workin’ on it.
